I use a life fitness machine for about 55 minutes a day my heart rate is about 150 after 25 minutes the machine says im burning about 850 calories but im being told there is no way i could be burning that much do you think this is true

No, after 25 minutes your calorie burn is typically around 250 – 300 calories. At 55 minutes, 450 – 600 can be expected.

  1. No I don’t think thats possible, for 55 minutes you should be looking at a maximum of 600 calories burnt. If you want to know the exact number of calories burnt you should invest in a heart rate monitor.

  2. 850 does sound pretty high. I usually do a high-impact cardio class a couple of times a week, and it is pretty intense. Let’s just say that I could wring my clothes out after class. Even at that level, I only burn a max of around 600-650 calories for the hour. But, I will add that I tend to have a much lower than average heart rate, so I do burn a little slower than most.

    Not to say that your not getting up to 850, but my body is different. I’m not using this machine, but I workout hard.

  4. 900 is pretty high and 200-250 is far too low, I think with most ellipticals on oderate resistance we burn 300 cals for first 30 minutes and 400 for the second 30 minutes since heart rate increases.
